Meet the Doctor |
Dr. Sam Christensen Dr. Christensen is a native to the Central Coast Area. He was born and raised in Salinas before going to college at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. After college he worked for a year as an emergency room medic, and then spent four years as a middle school science teacher. In his candid moments he may tell you that if he won the lottery, teaching middle school is the job he’d do for the rest of his days.
Dr. Christensen proudly attended the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco where he was a National Hinman Research Scholar and a representative for the school in the American Dental Education Association. After graduating he was invited to return and teach at the dental school which he enthusiastically did for ten years. He spent some time on faculty teaching at the Cabrillo Dental Hygiene program and continues to scratch the teaching itch by lecturing for the Santa Cruz ROP Dental Assisting program, the Cabrillo College Gross Anatomy Department and by teaching science lessons in his kids’ elementary school classrooms.
Dr. Christensen is married to his wife Jennifer, a 2nd grade teacher by training and education. Together they have three beautiful children, Ellie, Luke and Clark, and two rambunctious boxers. The family lives in Aptos and spends all of its time running around from one kid’s activity to another.
Dr. Christensen likes to joke that he used to have a life before children and dentistry. He’s done a little of everything – he’s sung at Carnegie Hall, done a little theater, worked in an ER, performed opera, hosted a radio program, done autopsies for the LA County Coroner, taught middle school, run a marathon, coached basketball … Nowadays he’s just happy to be a husband and a father, but you can always get him talking about movies, music and his kids |
